My Attic... My White Heaven

My Attic, My White Heaven

I am also linking up with My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia for the Block Blog Party on using Paint Drop Cloths or Tarps.

I am linking up with her today to show you the finished attic I posted earlier.
Be sure and pop over to see all the inspired blogs that are posted.

As I said, in my prior post I needed a place of my own, a place to be alone with God. Somewhere to read, pray, listen and dance if I felt inclined.
This project has been a lot of fun and I have enjoyed it... it could have gone a little faster but then what project ever does.
Please check out the before pictures on my last post.
So enough said here is the after pictures.

Here are some of my favorite little treasures that I have collected and have gotten from special friends.

The book pages on the ceiling are from an old bible and the walls are covered in painters tarp.
I needed something that covered the lathe that showed in the corner by the door.
I used furniture tacks to attach the canvas tarp, it gives it an old upholstered look.

I love the button bracelet around the candle that I got from my good friend Susan "Z" at Old Grey Mare and the beautiful orchid in the glass dome is from my sweet Deb at Talking Trash.

The little French silver religious purse charms are from my daughter Jody, they open up with miniature books and a rosary inside.

The sachet with the angel was a gift from sweet Polly at Counting Your Blessings.
Polly came to see me last week at the Fleamarket, and I was thrilled to  meet her and her lovely family. She also has The French Cupboard and Porch magazine which I was honored to be on the cover this Christmas issue.  She brought me a fabulous  clock cloche filled with wonderful goodies, bless her sweet heart.

The wonderful collage hanging on the door is from my very talented friend Lisa at Tarnished and Tattered, it is one of my favorites.

The linen purse is from my good friend Donna at Everyday Elegance, I just love the color and the ruffles... it just looks great hanging on the door knob.

The morning sun, it is beautiful sitting here with my cup of coffee looking over the trees.

 My prayer request wall.
Keeping a mindful account of those that have special needs or just prayer, as we all do.
I will be having a prayer request page on my sidebar shortly.  The talented Karen at Valentine Designs is helping me with this.

Love my old bear...

My perch

A little Christmas...

I put in a twin bed to use as a sitting area and an extra bed for company.

The duvet cover I made from an antique European sheet I had gotten in France

I used the painters tarp to cover this cubby also, it was a door way to the dormer and crawl space but I defined the walls with the tarp and now I can use it for a side table.

This is such a cool old bentwood chair, I had gotten two of them, they are from an old theater. They are Victorian and swivel. I slip covered this one in cream crewel work, it had burgundy velvet on it.

And sometimes I am not alone...

I hope you enjoyed my make over as much as I did... It still needs a little tweaking, and of course it will evolve over time. I will be posting more before and afters of my house projects after the first of the year. If you have any questions on this one, please email me, I would be happy to answer them the best I can.

Please don't forget to join me for my
 Birthday Blog Party,
December 18

Thank you Kathleen for another inspirational White Wednesday.
Many Blessings
Rebecca

  8. R.E.,
    I don't even know where to start...unbelievable.
Let me start by saying thank you for including that little orchid in your heaven on earth. It makes me feel like I'm with you.
I literally gasped when I saw the 1st window photo, but I stopped breathing with the next photo. How perfect with God's own spotlight on that Bible spine.
There is so much beauty in this tiny room starting with you and ending with that precious baby perched on the bed.
Well done my friend...very well done.

  10. Oh goodness me.....as an adult...I so appreciate this space and what you have done with it. But as a child ( my childhood)....it would have been HEAVEN for me. I use to love to go up in our attic...as FAR away from the chaos going on in my home....as I could.
You have done a marvelous job of adding MORE of your favorite things up there...so you can go and enjoy them there too.
How old is your home ?
You only see lathe in homes over 50 or 60 years old as I recall.

  11. Rebecca,

My heart skipped a beat or two for the sheer beauty and significance of this special room in your home. I want one! How full your heart must be when you retreat here and how blessed your guests will be to stay there. There are not adjectives enough to describe the perfect balance of charm and beauty you have created with a new twist on "old world" elegance. Love it all!

"A Room of One's Own"- you did it. And while you have made a place to be with God, God has been with you. Merry Christmas, my friend.

  32. Rebecca,
Well that is about the prettiest room I have ever, EVER seen! The architecture is amazing, that window! So beautiful with the lace laying on the ledge of it. Only you would have the nerve & the skill to re-purpose a french sheet into a duvet! And the desk stool, never seen anything like it. I'm very honored that you would include my art in that wonderful prayer room. Love it all Rebecca! Lisa

Oh, would I ever love to have a place like that, but in this Texas heat it would be more like that other place (you know, the opposite of heaven). And most certainly, I don't have your touch.

  53. What a Magical place your Sanctuary is!!! *swoon* And the best part for me was reading what meaning there is in each lovely piece displayed... they all have a Story... one rich and deep in sentiment since so many were gifted to you by those Loved ones in your life who were thoughtful enough to present you with something very "you" that would truly be cherished properly and displayed proudly! I am very much like that so I enjoyed your entire shared Story, I could relate to it on many levels. Christmas Blessings and a Happy, Happy, Joyous Birthday to you!!!

  58. Sheer magic! We don't really have attics out here...just "crawl spaces"...and they are as lovely as they sound! ;} My ideal has always been the attic in Sleepless In Seattle...I have watched it a million time just to see that attic {this is probably not something I should put in print! ;} But your attic beats it by a mile! It's simply gorgeous! I think I could gaze out that window for weeks! I am awed!!!

  60. I think the most important thing is that you have created a space for Jesus and His Father, the Almighty. In a world where He is fast becoming obsolete in many minds, he can still find solace and a warm welcome in the hearts and homes of many.
God bless you with his presence in that room, no matter what the decor, it is a warm welcome to Him, Live up to the challenge of staying faithful.

  62. This is your attic? Gorgeous! Our walk-up old house attic is full to the rafters with stuff! That's why I had to open an Etsy shop. Maybe someday I'll have space for a beautiful room, too.

  63. Love your attic...and as someone said (above) great that GOD and Jesus have a designated place in your home. I've always wanted an attic but here in California very small chance of that unless you get a really old home.

Loved your comments on the post where you wrote about the copper roof...really LOL at how you reacted finding out how much the guy sold the copper roof for. Cordially, Mary
